John Lennon, Give Peace a Chance

Wednesday, the greatest american historian passed away at the age of 87.

I don’t think that is being overly dramatic. Howard Zinn spent his career trying to get to the heart of our historical legacy. Always understanding that if one knew three sides of the story, there were still many more that had not yet been told.

I first read Zinn about a decade ago: A People’s History of the United States. I had always known that our history books were seriously lacking, but it was only once I read this book that I truly understood that lack. I wish that I had been exposed to his work earlier in my life, but then, perhaps I found it at exactly the right time for me.

No matter what I write here, it seems to not be enough, so instead I’ll let his words speak for themselves:

Howard Zinn: “On Human Nature and Aggression.”

Empire or Humanity, by Howard Zinn
